Many people say the key to a long and happy marriage is to ‘date your spouse.’ By making time for your spouse, you are keeping that relationship at the forefront of your life. As wives and mothers we tend to get busy and our lives are chaotic on a good day.

But dating your spouse shouldn’t be hard. And it doesn’t have to be expensive! Whether you’re on a tight budget or you just need some fun ideas for your next date night that won’t break the bank, I’ve got you covered.

You don’t need to spend a lot of money in order to spend quality time with your sweetheart! And with a few ideas, you can still enjoy date night without the guilt! These 25 ideas are all under $25 and some are even FREE!

I know it can be expensive to hire out a babysitter, so think outside the box! Try forming a parent tribe that rotates babysitters between the parents. This is a great way to save money and give everyone time to ‘date their spouse’!

Take a cooking class

Many cooking classes can be found for $8 or $10 per person. You can also check your local community center for classes that might be even cheaper!

Go on a dessert date

Make dinner at home and go out for dessert! This could be a fun way to treat yourself to a little pricier dessert than you would normally get with a dinner meal.

See a matinee movie

Matinee movies are super cheap in our area and we love to take advantage of them! However, if your matinee’s are still expensive, try doing a discount day instead. Or look for coupons online!

Go swimming at a nearby lake

Weather permitting, take a nice scenic drive to a nearby lake and enjoy a day on the water. Or spend the day relaxing on the beach.

Go stargazing

You don’t have to go anywhere for this one, but it can be worth the extra drive for a great view.

Visit an art gallery or museum

Many galleries and museums can be visited for around $11 per person. If you don’t have one that cheap near you, consider visiting a nearby city and make a day out of it. Be sure to watch Groupon or other coupon sites for deals too!

Go to a comedy club

Have a comedy club nearby or a guest comedian coming to town? Go to a small, local club to help save money!

Have a movie marathon at home

Rent Redbox or use a subscription service if you have one! If you are looking for a free movie night, go through some of your old movies. Subscribe to Redbox, because they occasionally send out free movie rentals!

Go to a local arcade

This is a fun way to revisit your childhood and have some fun. Buy a $20 game card and play away! You may even need to find some quarters if it’s an old school arcade.

Play board games

How long has it been since you played a board game together? Choose your favorite board game (or two) and have a night of fun while staying in.

Make a fancy dinner at home

Staying in isn’t all bad! You can still make a great pasta dish and fancy dessert for under $25!

Attend a trivia night

If you love trivia, this is a fun option. Usually, the cost is pretty low, and this can be a lot of fun!

Go for a romantic stroll

Go to a nearby park or a nice place with a great view and walk around for a while. Hold hands as you walk and reconnect with a talk.

Go for a hike

Find a nearby trail or drive a little for a more scenic hike. Don’t forget to pack your hiking shoes and a lunch or snack if you’ll need it!

Play mini golf

Miniature golf is a favorite date of teens and families. But that doesn’t mean you can’t go as a couple! Bring along another couple for a fun double-date!

Volunteer together

Pick a cause you both care about and give back to your community. Watch your town website or emails for times and dates!

Go see a local band

Local bands are going to be a lot less or even free. Pack a picnic meal, grab your lawn chairs or a blanket and head out for the evening!

Visit the farmer’s market

You don’t have to buy something, but it can still be a lot of fun to walk around together and check out the different booths.

Take a dance class

Find a local dance studio and take a dance class together. Sometimes they offer couple rates or a special dance night around Valentine’s Day!

Attend a local festival or event in your city

Check your city or community calendar to find something in your area. If you live in a metropolitan area, there is almost always something happening.

Go on a picnic

Pack your own lunch and pick a spot with great views. This is a wonderful time to have a quiet meal with just you and your spouse.

Attend a play in your city

Look at your local high school, college, or theatre for cheap tickets. You might be surprised by the talent and see a fantastic show for a steal.

Go ice skating

Indoor ice skating is cheap! Plus, you pay once for a day full of fun.

Find a meal deal

My family loves to frequent the local Chili’s. They currently offer a 3 for $10 meal deal that gives you a non-alcoholic drink, an appetizer and an entrée all for just $10! That means both of you can eat for $20 (or cheaper if you share an appetizer)!

Go to a Coffee Shop

Whether you drink coffee or tea, visiting a local coffee shop can be a great way to get away and relax while having a nice warm drink together.

As you can see, you can still have a great time on your next date without having to break the bank! Give one of these 25 dates a try to stay within a tight budget and still have a great time.
