If you’re just joining me, you can catch up with Part 1 here.
Before I get started, I have linked up a friends post in the Blog Hop, but it truly warrants another mention here. I have known Lindsay since she was a little thing. In fact, (this is going to tell my age) I was one of her babysitters many years ago. She is now grown, married and has 3 kids of her own and runs a farm! Her change of heart and insight is just what I needed to read. I know you will be blessed too! So hop on over to her blog and read her thoughts on Gratitude.
And now, for the rest of my ABC’s of Thankfulness.
N – Nieces and Nephews. I have a total of 3 living nieces (1 in heaven, whom I never had the pleasure of meeting) and 5 nephews. Each of them has their own unique personality. They make me laugh, smile and fill me with such joy every time I see them!! I have seen each one of them within days (if not hours) after their birth and have loved holding each of them. (With the exception of the newest addition, who is inOkinawa,Japan – so it’s gonna be a while before I can see or hold her. L)
O – Oma & Opa. These two special people have invested in our lives since before we were married – or even a “couple.” They were the Hubster’s dorm parents in college and took us in as their own. Oma is a HUGE fan of OU (Oklahoma) and would allow us two in their apartment (off limits to other students) for games. We would eat with them, fellowship with them, discuss church, politics and enjoy their company. They were two of the first people (after our own parents) we told when we got engaged. They love us and our kids like their own. Even though they live several hours away, we try to visit them as often as possible. They are our “other” family.
P – Pictures. It is so true that pictures speak a 1,000 words. I love to take pictures. Even now that my camera is on the fritz, I am always taking pictures with the camera on my phone. It’s just so darn handy! Without pictures I wouldn’t remember what my kids looked like last year and how much they’ve grown and changed. Without pictures I wouldn’t remember most of my childhood (that’s another story all together). Without pictures I wouldn’t have the memories of my grandfather who passed away nearly 10 years ago or of my Dad who just went Home this past February. Pictures mean so much to me and I am so glad I have those to help me remember where I have been and where I am.
Q – Quiet Times. For many years I’ve thought it taboo to speak about needing quiet times. Not just a time for me to read and focus on God’s Word, but times of silence and quietness in the house. The Hubster is so good to take the kids with him to do the grocery shopping (he typically does it since I rarely pay attention to prices – LOL) or just out for a 30 minute drive so I have some peace and quiet. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the business and the noise in my house – I really do. But there are times that I need those quiet times to rejuvenate me.
R – Rainbows. I am thankful for those times that God blesses me with a rainbow. Rainbows follow rain and I typically find myself down on those dreary, rainy days. And then I look in the sky and see a beautiful rainbow reminding me of God’s unfailing love for me. What a blessing!
S – Spouse. See I told I had him in here!! The Hubster is the most amazing man and perfect man for me. I am so thankful for how hard he works and all the sacrifices he’s willing to make for us. He is truly a man after God’s own heart and I couldn’t ask for more than that! He is my rock and my safe place. He was took care of the kids and the house this summer when I was in and out of the hospital and so sick. And he did it without complaint. He is more than I asked for and more than I could have ever dreamed he would be. I am blessed to be called his wife.
T – Thanksgiving & other Holidays. I am thankful for times that my extended family can get together. Now that all us grandkids/cousins are grown, we live miles and miles apart (from CA to OK to IN toJapan). There are times not all of us are together, but we appreciate being together so much more now that we’re grown. My family has always been a priority for me and I wouldn’t have it any
U – Uncles. I have the 3 best Uncles in the world!!! They are all God-fearing men, who have loved me my entire life. I have always had special relationships with my uncles. My Dad’s brothers are both ministers and have really helped the Hubster and I through some difficult times with churches and being hurt. My mom’s brother, well I know I’m his favorite niece! lol (I’m his only one.) We’ve always had a special bond because he was only 15 when I was born. I attended his high school graduation and was a flower girl in his wedding. I babysat his kids when they lived near us and I’ve watched him grow up just about as much as he’s watched me grow up. My Uncles are a huge part of my life and I am so blessed and honored to be part of theirs.
V – Vehicles. We may have older vehicles, but they run (most of the time) and are completely paid for! Doesn’t get much better than that!
W – Weather. The weather in OK is crazy and unpredictable. But I love that! The old saying goes, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait 5 minutes and it’ll change. It’s OK.” And you know…there are days that’s so true. Just this week we start our mornings in the 30’s and by5pm it’s nearly 70 degrees! It may be crazy, but it’s the spice of life for me. It also reminds me that God is in complete control and there is nothing we can do about it.
X – Χριστός. For those of you not familiar with Greek, this is the word for Christ or Christós, which simply means anointed. I mentioned under “J” that I’m thankful for Jesus Christ, but since He is the reason for who I am, I figured he warranted another mention.
Y – Yellow Roses. My long-time favorite flower is the yellow rose. And my Daddy and Grandpa, who’ve both gone Home, used to buy them for me at my dance concerts, graduation and sometimes just because. The Hubster proposed with 11 yellow and 1 red rose. They are now more to me than just a flower. I will always love yellow roses and the memories they hold for me.
Z – Zoo trips & Zany, fun times with my family. Since we’re homeschoolers, field trips are a big part of our curriculum. I love being able to take my kids to the Zoo any day of the week just because! I love having late night movie nights with snuggles and popcorn. I love watching my kids wrestle and climb all over the Hubster. I love hearing my kids giggle with each other. Our family may not be perfect or calm…in fact, we’re far from it. But, I love who we are now and who God is shaping us to be for Him. And that’s all that matters to me!
Thanks for sticking with me through these two posts!! It has been amazing just to sit down and think about all the many, many blessings I have. I may not be the richest person or the smartest person or have the best body, but I am truly blessed.
I am taking the next couple of days off from posting, but I will be back Saturday with some Christmas and Winter printables!!! So be sure to come back and check them out!
