Can you believe Thanksgiving is THIS Thursday?? WOW!!! This year seems like it is just flying by and I know the rest of the year will too. The holidays seem to always make the days and weeks go faster. *sigh
This week I’m hosting my first ever link-up and I would LOVE for you to join me!!! It’s a “Week of Thankfulness” Blog Hop!!!! If you have a recent post or write a post this week about thankfulness, why you’re thankful, the ABC’s of Thankfulness or really anything pertaining to being thankful, please link it up!! If you’d like to share in the Blog-Hop, just leave a comment and your email and I’ll send you the info!!! The more the merrier!!!
Today I’m going to share with you my ABC’s of Thankfulness Part 1.
A – Aunts. I have the best Aunts in the world!! First, every one of them is a Christian and a godly mother. Second, they love on me and my kids whenever we’re together. Third, they love to play games with the family and have fun. Now that I’m older and a mother myself, they are full of wisdom, advice and are a sounding board that’s good for my soul. I am one blessed niece!!
B – Blogging. As many of you know, blogging is a full-time job and it takes work. But, I can honestly say that I enjoy this work! Blogging has helped me work through issues and talk through things that I never thought about. Blogging has brought me new “friendships” and led me to read things that have deeply touched my soul and had me wrestling things in my own life. Yes, I enjoy writing and it has been a great outlet for that, but my spiritual health is so much better because of the blogs I read. What a blessing it has been!
C – Cousins. I don’t get to see them often, but I am blessed to have the cousins I do. They are all Christians, which in-and-of-itself is a HUGE blessing. The girls are all married to ministers and the guys are all either ministers or work in a Christian capacity (i.e. Christian school). We may be spread out over 12 years, but when we get together we all get along and pick up right where we left off. Our own kids are close in age – 13 kids ranging in age from7 to 2 days (my new niece), which makes for some SUPER fun times!!
D – Daddy. My Daddy was not always the best man or easiest man to get along with. There were times that we butt-heads in the worst way. But, the last 6 years (after we moved back here) we saw a HUGE change in him. He finally surrendered it all to the Lord and became His servant to the day he died. Even sitting in the hospital (probably knowing full well what was coming in the days ahead), he was witnessing and talking to anyone and everyone who came to his room about God and the mission organization he co-founded. He was asked just less than a week before his death if he was worried. His response, “Why? It’s a win-win for me! If I get out of here I’m going to work full-force and continue on for the Lord. If I don’t…I’m going Home!” Such sweet words to finally hear him confident in his faith and ready for whatever the Lord brought him. Although times may have been rocky growing up, he finally truly found the Lord and for that…I am BLESSED!!!!!!
E – Electricity & Modern Conviences. I know this may sound silly, but I am so glad I have an indoor toilet, a stove to cook on, a refrigerator to keep my food from spoiling and a house with heat in the winter and cold air in the summer. Although there are times I wished I lived in a “slower time,” I don’t think I would fair well during the 1800’s. LOL
F – Friends. I have had many friends in my lifetime. Some I still have, many have gone their own way. While I don’t typically have a lot of close friends, I am blessed by the ones who have come into my life – even if for a season. They have made me stronger, more confident and helped me through times I just needed someone to talk to.
G – Grandparents. I don’t believe anyone in the WORLD could have better grandparents than I do!!! Yes, it’s true…I have the best grandparents ever! Sure they’re not perfect, but they are always (and I mean always) there for me. They have come over to fold laundry, watch my kids (their great-grandkids), sit with me at the hospital when I’m sick, sit with my family when my Dad was sick and so much more. They are all Christians and one is waiting at the gates of heaven for me!! I am so blessed to have them nearby (within 15 miles) now and the entire time I was growing up! I have such a special relationship with them. They are now more than grandparents, they are my friends.
H – Homeschooling. You thought I was going to say husband didn’t you?! Lol (I’ll get to him, trust me.) Three years ago when I set out on this new journey, I really had no idea what to expect. It has changed me in more ways than I can count. I have grown as a mother and teacher. It hasn’t always been easy and there are days it’s a down-right struggle, but it has always been a blessing. At the end of the day I may be exhausted, but I have been able to be with my kids all day. Knowing exactly what goes into their little heads and seeing the light-bulb moments is priceless in my opinion. I wouldn’t trade this crazy, wild, go-against-the-flow life for anything!
I – In-Laws. My in-laws are God-fearing people and raised the man I love – how could I not be blessed by that?! They love the Lord and strive to do His work. They have taken in 3 of our nephews as their own. They have been at every surgery and c-section I’ve ever had – even if it meant getting up at4:30am!!
J – Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. Without Jesus, I would be lost – literally. I don’t know how I would have made it through these past 11 months without Him. He has been my rock during this time of grief. He sacrificed everything for me (and YOU). I pray my life is a reflection of His love and sacrifice for me. I want nothing more than to get to the gates of heaven and hear, “Well done good and faithful servant.”
K – Kids. My kids are the light of my life. They consume my days and my nights. They are the worst of me and the best of me all wrapped up in one! They make me smile, laugh to the point of tears, cry from frustration and weep with fear of failing them. It is the best “job” in the world. And yet there are days I would like nothing more than to throw-in the towel. But, after it’s all said and done, there’s nothing I want more than to be the godly mother they know will always have their back, be their #1 cheerleader and the voice in their head. I want them to know without a doubt, that I love them with all my heart and that they bless my socks off!
L – Love. I am blessed to have people and things in my life that I love. I have the love of a Savior who sacrificed everything just for me. I have the love of a God-fearing man, who wants nothing more than to love me like Christ does. I have the love of my kids, who see me at my worst. I have the love of a family, that may be somewhat dysfunctional (let’s be honest, who’s isn’t to an extent), but love me anyway. And I am blessed to have been given a love of music, teaching and hospitality. Letting down your guard and loving can bring pain, but it can also bring so much JOY. I choose JOY.
M – Mom. My mother is the strongest woman I know. And these past 11 months have just proven what I already knew. Her faith is unshakable, even in the loss of her husband. Her love for her kids has never wavered, no matter what heartache we’ve put her through. She is a headstrong, confident godly woman. She is my best friend and the person I run to with questions about being a mother. She has always been my biggest cheerleader and the one who pushes me to do better. For better or for worse, she is the voice in my head. I am blessed to call her Mom.
To be continued…Thursday.
