If you’re just joining us, you can catch up here in our Across the USA in 31 Days series. Every day this month I will bring you a small sample of printables from my larger eBook, which will be released later this month. I hope you will join me this month as we travel from state to state across the USA.
Today we’re traveling across the Pacific Ocean to our island state, Hawaii. It was the last state to join our Union less than 60 years ago on August 21, 1959. It is the only state that is made completely of islands and the only one not located in the Americas. It is the northernmost islands in the Polynesian triangle. Eight main islands spread over 1500 miles make up this state. Because of its location, its culture is heavily influenced by the North American and Asian cultures.
Today you can download the Hawaii State Flag Coloring Pages. Since Hawaii was once an independent Kingdom (1810-1893), its design was at the request of King Kamehameha I. It has 8 red, white and blue stripes, which represent the eight main islands. You will also notice the flag of Great Britain in the upper left corner. This symbolizes and honors the state’s friendship with the British. The coloring pages are available in print for the pre-writers, dotted manuscript for early writers and dotted cursive for upper elementary.
