Heather has outdone herself again!!! My Christmas Wish is a fantastic 15-day journal for children of all ages. While the journal is geared toward elementary students, it is easily adaptable for younger children. The journal is divided into 5 sections (obedience, love, joy, charity and peace) that take children through the story of Christmas and help them discover the true meaning of Christmas. Daily the child is taken through journaling exercises that help him/her go deeper. Heather uses the acronym WISH (write, investigate, share and hear) to help teach scripture, dig into the scripture more, learning to share through an outside activity and then hearing the Word of God read aloud to reinforce what they’ve studied that day. Each day also has a prayer prompt that encourages the child to open up to God about their joys and struggles.

What I like about My Christmas Wish:

  1. The detail given to each daily activity, scripture and example is simply wonderful. It shows how much care and thought really went into this project.
  2. I love that the prayers ask them to be specific – not just “pray for God to help you be obedient.”
  3. I love that they are given specific challenges with each daily study (i.e. give 3 reasons or give 2 ways you can…).
  4. I love how the daily activities really solidify the lesson of each day.
  5. I love that everything is included in the book. Some of the activities require a few outside resources, but for the most part everything is included. If the child is asked to write a letter to someone, the template is included. It’s great!!
  6. I love the variety of activities included in this journal. It’s not all writing or copywork. There are hands-on activities as well as puzzles, letters and more!
  7. I love how it forces the child to think outside themselves and look at the world around them.

Although my children and I have not gone through this study together yet, I do plan on using it with our other Christmas studies during the first few weeks of December. I am so excited to see my children continue to grow and learn more about the true meaning of Christmas by serving others, being joyful, striving for obedience and more!!! I am excited to see their faith stretch and increase because of this focused study.
