Hello In All You Do readers. This is Jessica from Jeca Creations. I am bringing you all a simple DIY that is not only functional but is also a stash buster if you tend to horde fabric like I do.
Here is what you will need to make yourself some:
*Elastic – 1″ works best
*Cutter or scissors
*Velcro- 1″ wide
This tutorial is for two different sizes. Small/medium is listed, large/x-large is in parenthesis. Cut the following:
Fabric- 21″x3″ (25″x3″)
Elastic- 14″ (16″)
Velcro -2″ (2″)
Fold your fabric in half widthwise making your fabric 21″x 1.5″. Iron your fabric flat.
Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, sew along the long side leaving both ends open. You now should have a tube.
Insert your safety pin in to one end of the elastic. Feed your elastic in to one end of your tube. Keep feeding the elastic through until you have all but a fraction of an inch left out.
Now VERY CAREFULLY continue to pull the elastic through until it has cleared the top of the tube by 1/2 inch. You should be able to fold over the 1/2″ of fabric closing the tube. That 1/2″ should not have elastic in it (this makes it much easier to sew).
Zigzag stitch the fold closed. You should be stitching over all of your fabric and one layer of elastic. This will not only close the tube but will keep your elastic in place on this end.
Continue to pull the elastic through to the other end of the tube and follow step 4 again on this side.
Unhook your velcro and sew one side on to one end. Simply sew around the edges.
Because these bands are going to be in a circle you want to make sure that you sew the remaining half of your velcro on the opposite side on the other end.
That’s it!!! You are done! Make several sets for you and go on over to my blog to find the tutorial for the kids sized bands!
How would you use these Luggage bands?
