This week I’m sharing with you an easy, quick DIY project from my Mom. Truthfully, she is the crafty one of the family. I inherited none of that from her!! I may appear to be creative and crafty, but really I’m just a great “copy-cat” that can tweak things after the creative process has been started for me! So there ya go, now you know my secret!
But, seriously, I think I could even do this project – it’s that simple!! So, let’s get started with the tutorial, shall we?
Since my Dad passed away back in February, my Mom has been fixing things around the house. Mostly things they had talked about doing, but had not “gotten around to” yet. One major re-do she’s just finished is her master bath. Now, it’s only a half-bath, but the 1990’s lattice-work with ivy stenciled paint job was waaaaay out-dated. I wish I had a picture! She forgot to take a “before” picture. Maybe she was too embarrassed! LOL Really, it just needed a revamp!
Now you need to understand my mother. She has this innate sense of style. It’s just “in” her. I can’t explain it really. She has the ability to look at a bare room and see it’s potential. She can match and coordinate colors like no one I’ve ever seen (short of the professionals on TLC or HGTV). She has vision and knows how to make it happen. She’s just pretty darn amazing!!
She found a vanity, mirror, cabinet set that she really liked and then a new (taller) toilet – which makes us 6’ tall people not feel like we’re squatting to use the toilet – and a nice light set. But she couldn’t find anything she liked for the walls. Since it’s only a half-bath, she didn’t want anything with tubs or “washing” stuff on it. But, nothing else seemed to appeal to her either.
Finally, she found these 4 amazing mirrors. She called me to come down and look, but honestly I didn’t like them. I thought they looked a little “oldish” for her style. They reminded me of things my grandma (her mother) used to have in her house. I wasn’t as thrilled about them as she was. But she really liked them, so she kept with it. She just knew she could make them work.
So she set out for Hobby Lobby (yet again) and called me a little while later. “What if I put them inside a large picture frame? You know like we’ve seen on Pinterest? (Yes I got her hooked too!)” Me: “Oh yeah!! I really like that idea!” So there it was born. The idea for this post…er I mean her bathroom décor.
So, here’s how it went. She had a clock she liked a lot for the bathroom, but it had some brushed silver on it. So she bought some silver paint to use on the mirrors and she went to work.
Here ‘s the back of a frame to show the before color. It’s not a bad color, but not much to it.
And here they are after the silver paint was lightly applied. Aren’t they beautiful?!
Next, she hung the frame at the height she wanted. NOTE: We usually lower our pictures and décor down a few inches (like 6”) from where we would like it. Otherwise our guests would never be able to see or read anything! LOL
After she hung the frame, she divided it into 4 equal quadrants using a pencil and a level just to make sure she was even and straight.
Then, she centered and hung the mirrors in those quadrants. And voila! Instant picture frame art!! Okay, not instant, but pretty darn close!
And, here’s the two walls with the clock she liked and got her inspiration from.
What do ya think? I told ya’ll she was creative!
