Do you celebrate New Year’s in your house? Is it a big celebration or a just a fun time to gather together with some family and friends? It varied for us growing up. Some years we stayed up with my parents to watch “the ball drop” and other years we were in bed before 10pm. Some years my Dad was working the overnight shift to make sure things rolled over to the new year properly – he was a computer programmer for a major oil company – and other years we spent at my Aunt & Uncle’s house with my Dad’s family celebrating our Christmas on New Year’s.
That has carried over to my own family, now that I have kids. Up until last year, my husband worked New Year’s Eve almost every year, so it was just me and the kids. And since I was on Mom Duty, the night ended young and the kids were in bed well before midnight. Now, because our kids can barely make it to 10pm, we have started a fun, new tradition with them of a Noon-Year’s Eve party. This year, we will have some fun printables to go along with the party and I’ll be able to “sneak” in some extra learning time with them!
