Moving to a small town was NEVER my ideal location. However, when God calls...you answer YES. :: www.inallyoudo.net

I never thought a small town was for me. In fact, I pretty much told God he could send us anywhere except to a small town. Well, in case you’ve never tested God, telling him you don’t want to go somewhere is a sure-fire way to almost guarantee that’s where you’ll be headed.

But first, let me back up a little. I grew up in a large town on the outskirts of a large city. Now, my hometown had many aspects of a small-town, but we were far from a small town. Everyone went to the Friday night football games (and they still do). We have several annual parades down Main Street through downtown and everyone goes. They still have Saturday morning pancake breakfasts, summer concerts in the park, people sit on their porches in the evening with their neighbors just to visit and block parties , while not the norm anymore, still happen around town – especially in the summer months.

It wasn’t until I went to college that I realized not every High School in the nation had graduating classes of 1,000+ – yes, I was naïve. The town where I attended college was considerably smaller than my hometown of 98,000, but it was quite active with 3 local colleges in it. It was then, that I decided I could handle a town smaller than my hometown, but definitely nothing smaller than 40,000 (the size of my college town).

And if you don’t believe God has a sense of humor, just keep reading!! My life has changed considerably over the course of my nearly 10-year marriage. We have lived in 3 different states and in 6 different houses/apartments. We have been blessed with four beautiful children. And now, after 7 years of trials, pain, tears, heartache, defeat, stress, overcoming our own pride and LOTS of prayer HE has placed us exactly where HE wants us – in a small town!!!!

We are completely in LOVE with the people here and the town. Everything in our lives has prepared us for this time. If you don’t believe that God’s timing is perfect, I am here to tell you…IT IS!!!! All the trials, persecution, pain, heartache and defeat we dealt with and came through were for HIS purpose and HIS glory!!

We are so humbled and blessed to be living in a house that is nearly 600 more square feet than we had in Oklahoma for almost the same price!! Our kids have adjusted remarkably well and we have only a few more boxes to unpack before we say we are completely moved in – but the end is in sight!!

So, what do I like about our new, much smaller town of 14,000. I love the slower pace of life. People are not rushing around all the time trying to get somewhere faster. Of course, the 30mph speed limit through town pretty much hinders you from going anywhere too fast, but it really is a slower pace here. I no longer feel like I’m being pulled in 100 million directions. With the Hubster’s new job, we are enjoying MUCH more family time and it shows!! Our children’s attitudes are calmer and they love playing with each other more. The Hubster and I are actually able to spend more than just 30 minutes a day together, which I LOVE!!!!

But, how did the Lord lead us here? And what changed in us? Come back next week to find out how the Lord led us through some very dark times (including 5 job losses, a bankruptcy and more) to where we are today.

Blessings,
