Back in the spring, before life got crazy and we had a baby 4.5 weeks early that stayed in the NICU for 18 days and I had health scares and issues so I could work longer hours, I introduced our Ireland Geography Unit. I had high hopes of bringing you a new geography unit every month, but sometimes life happens and you have to just take a step back.
Well this week I was finally able to finish another geography unit for you all, and this time we moved just a little north to Northern Ireland. While many might think it is just another part of Ireland, they would be both right and wrong. While it is on the same island as Ireland and literally separated only by a river, Northern Ireland is not independent like the Repbulic of Ireland. In fact, Northern Ireland belongs to the United Kingdom (which we will study soon).
While this is not a complete unit study on the country, I think simply adding some additional reading resources and possible a recipe or two and you will cover just about every subject. In this study your students will be introduced to the native language (links and flashcards provided), different maps of the country to label waterways/rivers, counties, main cities, fact files, and notebooking pages for recording other geographical & government facts.
Included in this Set
- 33 total pages
- Ulster English Alphabet Flashcards
- Pure Vowels
- Dipthongs
- R-Coloured Vowels
- Geography
- 3 labeled maps for studying
- 4 blank maps for labeling
- Fact Files & Notebooking Pages
- 4 Fact File pages
- 5 Notebooking Pages
I know you’re probably worried about knowing how to say the correct pronunciation of the alphabet. Have no fear. I have included YouTube links in the unit to help you get a feel for the pronounciation. Ulster English is actually not as hard to pronounce and understand, but they do have a few key phrases that you’ll want to learn. And some of their words are different than ours, so those are noted in the videos as well.
