How do you make it all work? This seems to be the mystical questions asked by every mom and wife. Add in homeschooling teacher and writer and all the other roles that God has placed me in and life gets pretty crazy. Pinterest has thousands of women researching how to make all the various areas of their lives to all work together and still…there are no real firm answers.
6 Ways to Make it All Work
Make a family mission statement: Friends, we are running around aimlessly with no clear direction. We need this direction so that we know the activities in our lives are what truly fit the grand scheme of what God wants for our family and what He wants to convey to the world.
Keep priorities in check: Are the things that bog you down actually things worth trying to make work? Or are they simply things that do not complete the vision of your family? Sure there are amazing things that we can be involved in, but we need to have our eyes on the prize. The prize God has laid out before us.
Manage your time with great discernment: We are only given 24 hours in a day. That means that we need to use the time we have with great purpose. No need for things that do not fit our goals to suck up our time. Get a notebook and write down for a day or two where you spend your time. This will give you accurate account of how you spend your time and where changes need to be made.
Make a plan: Now that you have seen where you spend your time, get a planner – either store bought, printed or hand drawn. (This is my new favorite planner.) Plan out your schedule so that you have a clear direction for what needs to be done and when. No, your day will not always go as planned, but you have a plan, which is a start. Don’t forget as you are planning to also schedule in some simple down time. You and your family need this down time!
Take time for yourself: No you can’t always commit to an hour a day, but you can commit to a little time for yourself. Even just 15 minutes to read a book, a 20 minute walk, 30 minutes alone or a few minutes here and there. The fact is that you are not Super Woman. You can’t make everything work if you are not getting time to recharge yourself!
Apply lots of grace: Dear Sweet Friend, you will drop balls every single day – no matter how hard you try to make it all work. That doesn’t mean you stop trying! It does, however, mean you are human and sometimes tell yourself that next time will be better. Don’t beat yourself up over the little things, but rather focus on the bigger picture.
