Rainforest animals have always made an interesting topic for kids to study; hence, why I wanted to share my roundup of the best rainforest printables for kids. From the rain forest and forest floor to poison dart frogs and tree frogs, your kids will love learning about this part of the world. Using rainforest printables is a great way to introduce kids to this topic and teach a variety of concepts. Below are just a few ideas to help you do just that.
Best Rainforest Topics for Young Children and Older Students
When you’re homeschooling multiples, chances are you may be teaching children that range between many ages and grades. When it comes to learning about rainforests, the sub-topics within can be dialed up or down to meet your child’s unique needs. Below is a non-exhausted list of rainforest topics to consider studying:
- tropical rainforests
- Amazon rainforest
- tropical plants
- food chain
- plant species
- rainforest plants
- rainforest trees
- rainforest habitat
- jungle animals
- tallest trees
- exotic plants
- amazing animals
These topics can end up being a semester-long study depending on how deep you’d like to go. I personally like to follow the lead of my kids and if they stay interested in something, we go with it. When I notice them getting bored, we move on to something else. It also helps to have a variety of resources and activity sheets on hand to keep things fresh.
How to Create Rainforest Themed Lesson Plans
Choose a theme.
Whether you want to start with South America or spider monkeys, choose a topical theme. This will help when knowing what resources you want to pull together. One key piece of advice here, the more narrowed down your topic, the more interesting and fun it can be to teach and learn about it.
Decide on a time frame.
Although this can totally change, it’s a good idea to have a time frame in mind for organizational purposes. Trust me, you can thank me later. Younger children typically do not stay as engaged as older kids so keep this in mind as well.
Gather resources.
Taking into consideration the learning levels of your children, begin pulling together a variety of resources. With a topic like rainforests, you may want to start with fun facts printables, an emergent reader, and other great books that have lots of colorful pictures. Then, add educational videos, a good coloring book or two, and hands-on projects.
With these ideas in mind, let’s look at some of my best rainforest-themed products. Oh, and they’re all FREE!
