The most-watched sport in our home is definitely football. I have been raising little football fans since my kids were born. So why not break out some fun football coloring pages on game day for them!

Many of my favorite memories growing up are about football. Whether it was wearing our favorite team colors at family events to represent our teams, watching the guys (grown and kids) play catch on the lawn at Thanksgiving, or cheering together during bowl games, football seemed to bring us all together.

I grew up watching football every weekend from September until playoffs ended. Then we would watch bowl games with family during Christmas and New Years. Add in high school football games on Friday nights and the Super Bowl and we pretty much lived and breathed football for nearly 5 months! 

Why Football Coloring Pages?

Some people might think it’s silly to have coloring pages for football. I mean, it’s an action sport, what good are coloring pages?

First, it’s a nostalgia thing for me. I love coloring and have wonderful memories of coloring for hours with my Mom when I was a child. I want to build those same memories with my own children.

Second, the skills involved in coloring are such great practice for kids of all ages. And coloring has added benefits for adults too – such as maintaining dexterity in our joints as we get older.

Third, fall is the perfect season for football, so why not print some coloring pages and maybe even have a fun family contest while the game is on!

Benefits of Coloring Pages 

Who knew that coloring pages could do so much for improving skills?! From fine motor to dexterity, focus, and more, coloring pages are a simple activity with great benefits!

• Fine Motor Grip – One of the most obvious benefits is the improvement of their fine motor grip, which can in turn improve handwriting! When a child properly knows how to grip a pencil or crayon, they have better control over the utensil, which promotes better hand-eye coordination and giving them a chance at more legible handwriting.
• Improved Focus – Another wonderful benefit is improved focus. Scribbling is the first step to understanding grip, but with continued practice and focus, their hand-eye coordination will improve as well.
• Promotes Patience – While it’s not true for everyone, coloring can often promote relaxation and patience in children. It takes time to stay within the lines and color neatly, versus scribbling to get it covered and done. Learning to slow down and take their time to do it right, is a valuable skill and can even be used for stress relief later in life.
• Color Recognition – For little ones, coloring pages also improve color recognition. Have them name colors as they go or use their own creativity to mix colors and find new-to-them combinations is a fun, out-of-the-box way to learn and discover their own favorite colors!

It is amazing to me how much coloring can do for our minds and bodies and all you have to do it print and go!
