Living a new life in Jesus Christ can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially when teaching and leading your children to live a Christian life. In addition to attending church and being part of Bible study groups, there are other ways to increase your walk with Christ Jesus. One of these additional ways is what I’d like to discuss in this post and it’s the perfect way to read, study, and connect to God’s Word with your children.
Using a Scripture Journal to Experience the Newness of Life
Scripture journaling can help build a firm foundation in your new identity.
Being a child of God is a big deal and such a blessing. At the same time, this world we live in can make it pretty challenging. When you have a focus, such as a Scripture journal, it can become easier to remember that you and your children were made in the likeness of God. In a perfect world, walking as children of God may not be as difficult, but that’s why we also have the Holy Spirit.
Using a Scripture journal helps you and your children learn God’s Word.
The power of God rests in His Word, which is why it’s so important to make sure we are reading more often than not. When we are not filling ourselves with His Word, the power of sin can become increasingly loud. Deceitful desires are something we all experience – young and old alike – but we have God’s love to aid us in being obedient (instead of sons of disobedience).
Scripture journaling is another way to communicate with Heavenly Father.
The prince of the power of the air (Satan) would love nothing more than to disrupt our communication with our Lord God. That’s why we should understand that there are many ways to communicate with God and not just in prayer on our knees. Writing in a Scripture journal is another way to talk to God.
How to Use a Scripture Journal
Set aside time each day to read.
This can be in the morning, during breakfast, after lunch, or even before you go to bed. The idea is to get into the habit of reading the Bible every single day, even if it’s just one Scripture at a time.
Discuss what was read and how it can be applied in life.
Use what was read to have discussions with your children. Take time to connect the dots of how it applies to life so they can begin to see the importance of the good news and good works.
Use the Scriptures for prayer.
Once you’ve finished reading and writing, close off the time with prayer. Thank Heavenly Father for the time spent in His Word and with your children. Then use the Scriptures read as part of your prayer.
God’s Own Possession Mommy & Me Scripture Journals
If you’re looking for a way to connect with your child and with God, you’ll love my Mommy & Me Scripture Journals. The theme for June is God’s Own Possession and is the perfect way to introduce (or reiterate) what it means to be a new man in Christ and how to put off the “old man.”
As you read and copy the Scriptures this month with your children, we encourage you to read the verses aloud. We are reading and copying through 30 verses in the first two chapters of I Peter. While you will only copy one verse per day, we recommend you read through them together in sections weekly.
Final Thoughts
I am so thankful for all the blessings that come with being a new creation in Christ, including a new relationship with Him, and the desire to stand strong against my old life. His Word is powerful and having these Scripture journals to use each month has proven to be a positive addition to me and my children’s lives. Our hope is that your Christian walk is strengthened with each journal used!
