Another unit study I created in my early blogging days was the Christmas Tree & Saint Nicholas Unit Study. As I went through it this weekend to revamp and update, I realized just how poorly done it was. There were missing pages, misspelled words…oh my goodness, why didn’t someone tell me?! I was actually embarrassed as I went through it. However, I am happy to say it has been updated and all of the pages and activities are included this time!
As a child, I always looked forward to Christmas. I loved all the decorations, the lights, the family gatherings and of course, the presents. Several years ago we did away with the traditional “Christmas” in our house and decided that Santa Claus would not visit our home. That’s what prompted me to originally create this unit study for our children.

While we don’t celebrate Santa Claus in our house, the story and history of Saint Nicholas was one we wanted our children to know. In fact, we want them to have the same heart for those less fortunate and to share the love of Jesus with them that Saint Nicholas did. So, this unit study was born.
Do we still participate in Advent? Yes, we do. But, we also talk about the history of the Christmas Tree and talk about the life of Saint Nicholas, the man. We relate these two aspects of Christmas to Advent and the heart of Jesus, which is the true reason we celebrate this season.
I hope you enjoy this unit study as much as my children have and do. It is a great way to introduce the season or to bring in some fun, low-prep homeschooling during the busyness of December.
Included in this pack:
- 41 pages of printables
- Language Arts
- Science
- Math
- Social Studies/Geography
- Visual Arts
- Emergent Readers (color & B/W)
- Montessori-Inspired Counting Cards
- Notebooking Pages
This pack is designed for PreK-5th grades, but can easily be adjusted for older or younger kids. I have added some great activities for older kids in this unit study, but I know my oldest still likes to do some of the activities with our little ones too. They can also use the included notebooking pages to do their own research on the Christmas Tree and/or Saint Nicholas.

You’re welcome! Enjoy!
Excited to use this and the Pilgrims unit this year! Thank you!
Oh good! I hope you enjoy both of them!
What A wonderful Blessing to someone.
The $500 will bless our family by helping to pay off debt.
Winning the above give away would ease the stress and financial strain that our family has been under this year. As the holidays approach, a little less stress from a gift like this would be a real blessing for us.
This looks like an amazing unit! I am excited to share it with my kiddos (2 and almost 5!). We are trying to encourage thoughtful gift giving this year and I hope that learning more about St. Nicholas will help inspire my boys. Winning the giveaway would help us regain footing after buying a house this year. I know it would relieve a lot of financial stress!
I love seeing your awesome posts and learning along with my kiddos!!
We had the same issue with our kids always wanting more. Be sure to check out our $5 Christmas post for another idea! 😉
This would go a long way to help pay for education supplies, books, programs, etc. for my kids.
This giveaway would bless our family and be a great help in buying Christmas gifts.
Thanks for this unit study, and for helping to host the giveaway!
The $500 cash can really help us to fund our homeschooling resources, so I can purchase some curriculum, books and also school supplies for my kids. Thank you for the giveaway ana dlaos the St. Nicholas Unit Study. I always like to tell my children more about St. Nicholas for Christmas.
This is awesome! Thanks!
We have considered not doing a Santa-Christmas (it was family pressure that started it), but even so, this is fantastic. I can’t wait to try it out for homeschool this year.
Also, thank you for the PayPal giveaway. Winning would be such a huge blessing for us, as we are on a strict Dave Ramsey budget with one income.
Thank you, and God bless you as the holidays approach!
Every homeschooling family struggles with how to afford curriculum/supplies/even a little fun stuff. Who wouldn’t be blessed over the top by a gift of $500? We have never purchased any real curriculum and I would use the money to buy mine for next year. How exciting to think of that!
Winning the cash gift would allow me to purchase some fun homeschool items for the next part of this year and allow me to buy something special for each of my children and husband for Christmas.
Winning this cash gift will allow us to buy a good printer and other ‘big ticket items’ that we are looking into for homeschooling our littles. It will also allow us to fix up our backyard a bit more for the kids safety. This would truly be a blessing for our little family, it would help out so much. Good luck all and happy holidays!
This would be an extra special blessing I would like to pass on to my son and his wife for their family of 5. He is a minister and they homeschool their family. Money is very tight for them.
I completely relate! My husband is a minister and we have 5 kids (4 are homeschooling right now) as well!
Would be so delighted to win. 😮 Trying to pay off student loans and save up enough money to move out of our apartment!
Winning the giveway will help us so much: with Christmas gifts, homeschool materials and everyday needs. Thanks and blessings!
This will allow us to buy new clothes for grandchildren.
Winning this give away would give me the chance to bless my parents. They’ve been the rock to our family and I would love to do something special for them to show my appreciation!
Pay off debt/ buy school items/ of course, something special for Christmas!
A couple years ago we saw a church drama on the real St. Nicholas. It was a very effective outreach! Instead of “condemning” nonbelievers, this church said, “Here is how the gift-giving, white-bearded legend started and here is the God who transformed his life and motivated him to give generously.”
Oh I love that! What a neat and unique drama!!
We would use it to work on our new house that we just bought (a fixer upper house).
Thanks for the Christmas giveaway.
We would use it to get a few more homeschool items that we have on our wishlist
Thanks for the giveaway. We’d use it to pay off some bills!! Trying to buy a house!!
Thank you!
Wow! What a generous gift! Thanks for the chance to win this blessing!
$500 is an amazing gift. We are low income, and a disabled family. We’ve just begun my daughter in her homeschooling journey. I have homeschooled in the past, but this is an entirely new adventure!
Thanks for hosting the giveaway and for creating the unit study!
