As an adult, you may not have always thought that learning grammar was fun. As a homeschooling parent, part of our job is to make learning as intriguing as possible for kids, especially grammar. As students progress through their school years, they learn different key aspects of common subjects and grammar plays a very important role!
Why is Grammar Important to Learn?
If your child asks you why grammar is important, which they most likely will, you should have a good answer for them. Simply put, grammar is the web that sews the English language together. Proper grammar can help you create sentences, proper punctuation, and use the right words.
When used correctly, grammar helps you say what you mean and actually mean what you’re saying. Learning different aspects of grammar is an important part of English, Language, Arts and lays a proper foundation for speaking and writing that will follow them for the rest of their life.
I wanted to share some ways in which you can make grammar fun, but also how making grammar fun with review packs is also possible!

SEVEN Ways for Making Grammar Fun
Help Them Apply it to Their Lives
Nothing in life is going to be fun to learn if you can’t make it relevant to their lives. If you have a child that is struggling with learning grammar, then it’s time to make it relevant for them. By tying together grammar and things that interest them, you can make grammar fun!
Maybe you have a little girl in your life that loves gymnastics, how can you make grammar and gymnastics go together? If you have a teenager, perhaps showing them how grammar is relevant in their everyday life is also something you can do!
Learn Grammar Together
You can make learning grammar more fun by doing it together. It’s not always fun when you have to learn something on your own. From experience, I can tell you that kids seem to learn things better together whenever they are doing it together.
Think about how you can learn grammar together as a family. Maybe you could even craft up your own grammar game? This tip might help you keep your sanity a little longer.
Keep the Lessons as Simple as Possible
Unless your child is head over heels in love with grammar, I’m here to teach you a little tip. Most kids can’t handle long lessons. Every time you teach a grammar lesson, keep it as simple as possible.
The longer the lesson is, the less likely your child is even going to understand what you’re talking about. Plus, harder themes, like grammar, are better digested when it’s mastered in smaller chunks.
