The Polar Express is one of my kids’ favorite Christmas-time movies. They will watch it over and over for days on end. When we had a family movie night for another movie last month, the kids thoroughly enjoyed doing some fun papers and activities related to the movie. So, of course, I thought they would love some Polar Express printables and activities to go along with the movie.
Ideas for Using The Polar Express in Your Homeschool
Most seasoned homeschoolers have figured out how to use the holiday season as a fun way to switch things up in their homeschool. And when it comes to the Christmas season, using the Polar Express movie adds a great addition. If you’ve never thought to incorporate a classic movie during this time of the year, I have some great ideas for you.
Have a Polar Express Party
Who doesn’t love a good party? With the Polar Express as your theme, you can be pretty creative. For starters, decorate a table with the colors red, black, and white. Give each person their own candy cane with a quote from the movie attached. You could also drizzle the table with some snowflakes, which you could also recruit your kids to help make. Of course, it wouldn’t be finished unless you added a polar express train. Oh, and don’t forget the hot chocolate since you’ll be “visiting” the North Pole. This is where a good hot cocoa bar would come in handy.
Make Polar Express Crafts
Have each of your kids create their very own polar express ticket decorated however they like. Set the tone and let them know they’ll be traveling to the North Pole next week and to start getting ready now. Depending on the ages of your kids, you can really have some pretend play fun. Tell them they’ll need to have their train tickets handy for the train ride and that they can only bring 1 bag. Below are a few other craft ideas:
- Make a discovery bottle or sensory bin.
- Learn how to draw a train.
- Create a scene from the movie in a shoebox.
- Paint with jingle bells.
- Make bell tags.
