Primer Sight Word Easy Readers – Vol 1

It wasn’t until recently that I began to see the importance of learning sight words along side phonics. My oldest started reading very early in his kindergarten year and picked it up easily. He learned his letter sounds at preschool, so teaching him was a breeze. Once our second child was ready to start learning, he didn’t pick it up quite so easily. We struggled for months. Then, all of a sudden it clicked and he was off.

In this Primer Easy Sight Word Reader set, students will practice reading and building sentences on 5 sight words from the Primer Dolch Sight Word list. The words included in this set are "he", "she", "was", "that" & "on". ::

Now my daughters are a whole other story. Neither one of them have picked up letters or their sounds very easily. In fact, our youngest has been the most challenging by far, but it was our older daughter who proved me wrong. For years I have thought phonics was the only way to teach reading – at least until they understood and started reading.

However, she just wasn’t picking it up. She would do really well one day and then the next it was like we’d never seen the letters before. Finally it started to click, but she still struggles with remembering all the sounds. So, we started doing some sight word flashcards with her and it has made all the difference.

She started using our pre-primer readers a few weeks ago and is finally catching on and reading is becoming easier. She wants to read so bad and thought it would come as easily as math does for her, but we are pushing through and we will conquer. When she finishes those, she will move on to the Primer Sight Word Easy Readers.

The Primer Volume 1 includes 5 sight words in 5 books – he, she, was, that, on. Each of the readers have simple sentences with primer sight words coupled with a familiar picture for the non-sight word. These readers also include many of the Pre-Primer Sight Words for continued practice, so they can keep building their vocabulary and repeating to improve their reading skills.

Each book is a half-page style, so you can print and cut, then laminate them for longevity! The repetition of these easy readers will set them up for reading success as they gain the confidence they need to push forward and continue learning new words.

What is in each reader?

  • Each reader contains multiple pages using the targeted sight word
  • Each page also contains a well-known image, which is also used as the other word in the sentence (i.e. boat, house, etc.)
  • Sentences are short, which makes readability easier
  • Each reader in the series builds on the others, so previous sight words are repeated
