Helps with goal-setting
Like all homeschool moms, we go into the beginning of the school year with goals. The one that stands at the top of my list is making it a great year. When you have your why, mission, and motives established, it seems to make the new year much easier to start. You’ll soon find out that not every year will be the exact same as the last, and that’s okay. This is where keeping your overall goals in mind comes in handy. On those hectic days, remember your goals!
Keeps you organized
Next in line are making sure I have all my school supplies, printables, activities, worksheets, and the like. While I may (or may not) have everything printed, placed in the right binders, or spiral-bound, I still like to have a good idea of how I’m going to coast into the new year. One great way of doing this is having some sort of school theme, which in this case would be a back-to-school theme.
Gives you an idea of resources to use
Choosing a curriculum, products, and resources can be one of the most stressful aspects of homeschooling. Hence, why I highly recommend using worksheets to help in this area. If you’re thinking, “This is what they do at traditional schools and I don’t want to do that!” hear me out. Worksheets don’t have to be must-haves or must-dos in your homeschool. They are a great way to introduce a theme, topic, or concept in fun ways. There are also lots of different types of worksheets you can incorporate. This is such a great reminder, home schooling is exactly like you said not a one size fits all journey.
I appreciate the blog post regarding back to homeschool with high schoolers. They are not as eager as the younger ones seem to be. My high schooler is not ready for summer to be over and I am already getting her co-op books ordered and entering her course plans for the year.
It can be hard for sure! That’s one reason we do year-round homeschooling. But we do small bits of intensive studies so they get frequent but short breaks. It has worked well for us, but we don’t participate in a co-op, so that does make a difference.
