When thinking outside the box, you can actually improve creativity with Christian writing prompts, especially for younger to middle-aged kids. Using Christian-based prompts is also a great way to include God’s Word in your homeschooling curriculum. And the cool thing is you don’t need big fancy textbooks to do it. Below are a few practical suggestions and benefits for helping your kids creatively in everyday life.

How to Improve Creativity with Christian Writing Prompts

Start by establishing a journaling time.

I find that when we are intentional about something, it is easier to implement. In this case, specifying a unique quiet time for writing will become a powerful tool your children will carry well into their adulthood. It will help paint the picture that growing in their relationship with Jesus Christ doesn’t just take place at church. Academically speaking, journaling can also help with writing skills. Try morning journaling, but if you are not a morning person, you can always pick another time of the day.

If you need journal ideas, try using a prayer journal, bible journaling, a gratitude journal, or letting them create their own journal. There are many creative ways to use journals!

Choose a verse of the day.

If you’re looking for a quick writing activity or journal entry, choose a verse of the day or let your kids pick their favorite Bible verse to write about. You can use life events as a starting point or a specific topic that deals with a particular area of spiritual growth. There are a number of Scriptures that speak to the different areas of your life so those can be used as writing prompts as well.

Develop writing prompts from a Bible study.

Even young children can improve their creativity in this way. They can pick a Bible character and describe them in their own words. If you’re child is not writing fluently, you can use dictation, which is still a form of writing and communication.

Use a variety of resources.

Sometimes you need a different way to teach a concept. When it comes to improving creativity from a biblically-based perspective, you can use different types of resources. If your children are old enough, consider incorporating the YouVersion Bible app. This app not only has several different translations of Scripture, but also has daily Scripture reading, Bible studies, and more.

Another resource that has become popular over the years is the journaling Bible. These are designed for writing, drawing, doodling, and more. Some people that I talk to about bible journaling say it really makes the Word of God come to life and helps them to study on a deeper level. It is also sure to help enhance creativity.
