Homeschoolers Activities for Resurrection Day
These fun ideas are great to do as a family, with your Sunday school class, or with your church family.
Make a set of DIY Resurrection eggs.
Although you can purchase already-made resurrection eggs, making your own is a fun activity to get the kids involved in learning about the Resurrection. Here is a place where you can get resurrection egg printables. All you’ll need are plastic eggs, a permanent marker, the free printables, and you’re ready to go!

Read about the story of Jesus using an Easter storybook.
A big part of Christian faith is understanding the bible story of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. Sometimes this can be a difficult concept for young children to comprehend so using an Easter book to explain it can help. While reading about the story, create a timeline around the events of Jesus, His life, death, and resurrection.
Prepare resurrection cookies.
If you’ve never done this before, I highly recommend doing this Easter activity with the entire family. There are just a few steps and ingredients, but the biggest part is the reading of Scripture through the entire process. These should be prepared the night before Easter morning. Here’s a recipe and instructions to follow. And speaking of food, have a go at making a batch of resurrection rolls.
Use the Easter story to create memory verses.
This can also be turned into a game that can reward children with chocolate bunnies, jelly beans, or whatever prizes you choose. As you read the story of Easter, choose a few target verses for your kids to memorize. Older kids can try to memorize full passages of the resurrection story. You could even go an extra mile for your middle and/or high schoolers and have them prepare powerpoint presentations.
Give your kids Easter-themed coloring pages to color.
These are a great idea when you’re looking for something to do when your kids are bored. You can use coloring pages to teach an object lesson, bible verses, or reiterate bible stories. I have a huge roundup of Easter coloring pages below.
Have an Easter egg hunt.
Although this is an added tradition to Easter Sunday, having egg hunts, decorating Easter baskets, taking pictures with the Easter bunny, and enjoying a yummy Easter treat have all come to be apart of celebrating this holiday.
Play Easter games.
Make this Easter season a great time by playing a variety of games like Easter bingo (perfect for learning Scriptures about Easter), hide n seek with plastic Easter eggs, or put on an Easter program about Christ’s resurrection. Don’t forget the palm branches, crown of thorns (fake ones, of course), and a cross!
