Head to a Live Play
What better way to really experience the dramatic tragedy of Romeo and Juliet than to actually see it played out live on the stage?
While you may know the storyline by heart, do your kids? Taking your kids to a live play is a great way to help them be more engaged in studying such a classic work of literature!
If you live in a small town, you may need to head to a bigger city to see a live play. But if you have the opportunity, this is one you wouldn’t want to miss!
And think of all the great family memories you would be creating around something timeless and educational!

Read the Original Romeo and Juliet Play
When you really want to know how to study Romeo & Juliet, then there’s no better place to start than actually reading the play! While this can be a big endeavor, it could definitely be the right move for some kids.
There are some students who need to be right in the action. This could be a great time to explain the theatre! If you have more than one school-aged child, have them each audition for a part and then let your “table-read” be your learning!
If you don’t, get involved yourself and encourage your child to do so as well! I think it’s a great play and one that you will enjoy reading through with your teen.
Watch a Recording
There are so many recordings of the Romeo and Juliet play. Get on YouTube and see what you can come up with. I think you may be amazed yourself as to what you’re able to find!
Don’t forget about Audiobooks either! Sometimes, it takes hearing the words read aloud to be able to fully comprehend all the moving parts.
Watching short videos or listening to recordings on YouTube are great ways to study Romeo and Juliet, and could be a really good basis for beginning your unit study.
For a limited time, Shakespeare’s Globe is streaming some of their productions absolutely FREE! But they are only available for a limited time, so head over and check it out!
Journaling All the Way
As your student works through watching movies, reading plays, and dissecting what’s happening in the play, make sure they have a journal.
A journal is a great way for your students or teen to process what they are reading. Plus, they have a study guide of sorts because they can look back at everything that has been studied!
Our Romeo and Juliet Unit Study has notebooking pages that are preformatted and ready to be used alongside your other study material!
