This is the final post in our Pre-Primer Sight Word series. With this post, you should have everything you need to teach and review the Pre-Primer list of sight words. If you missed any of our Pre-Primer Easy Readers series, be sure to check it out here.
I have never been a flashcard learner. I didn’t learn by rote memory, so flashcards weren’t useful to me. My oldest doesn’t learn well with flashcards, but rather by doing. Our second and third children caught on without the use of flashcards, although we do use them now for review purposes. It wasn’t until our youngest homeschooler, that we started regularly using flashcards.
I’ve mentioned before that our youngest has struggled with learning. She is eager to learn, but just couldn’t commit things to memory. Through many tears and trials, we have finally figured out she is a very auditory learner. She does best when we do flashcards and make her repeat the letter and sounds or numbers. We do also make her work on writing them, but with flashcards, we are finally making progress!
These flashcards coordinate with the Early Readers and the Sight Word Worksheets in the series. These are a great way to either introduce the words or use them as review when they’ve completed the sight word list. However, since sight words are something that take time and repetition to learn, I highly recommend printing them on cardstock and laminating these sheets to use over and over.
