If you’ve been homeschooling for a while now, you know it’s not all bright sunshiny days. We’d be willing to bet that there may even be nights where you lay there dreading the next school day or even begin to question why you’re even putting yourself through this.
Sounds like you and your children are needing to be refreshed, and there’s no better way of doing it than by adding Bible studies to the mix.

Adding Bible Studies to Refresh Your Homeschool
When you hear the word “add”, a red flag may be going up, and you’re thinking, “it’s already a struggle each day, if anything, we need to take away a few things.” Yet you will be surprised that bringing God to your daily routine makes everything work out better and maybe even smoother. Here are other reasons why you should consider making Bible studies part of your homeschooling experience.
Get into a Good Routine
So, maybe you’ve never had Bible studies as a part of your homeschooling agenda because you already feel like it’s difficult to get everything else accomplished each day? We get it. Yet you’d quickly come to realize that adding a Bible study to your homeschooling experience will form a smoother routine to your day, with everything else falling into place better.
In Matthew 6:33 it reads, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.” Test out God’s promise on this, and you’d be amazed at the difference in attitudes of your children and how much more can be accomplished each day.
Bring Families Together
There are plenty of rough days during homeschooling where your son or daughter may be testing your love for them, leaving you feeling drained and they discouraged. Opening up God’s word first thing in the morning, not only draws us closer to him but creates a stronger family bond for one another. Words and actions are done in a kinder way, and your patience isn’t left stretched so thin.
Memorize Scripture for Life Applications
Memorizing scripture verses is another important part of Bible studies that helps your students learn how they can apply it to their everyday lives. Many people don’t see the relevance in scripture because it was written thousands of years ago and don’t know how it could possibly correlate with them today. It’s important that you as a parent help your children how to apply it.
The Bible teaches us to hide God’s word in our hearts so that we do not sin against God (Psalm 119:11 paraphrased). There are also several verses that can be applied while in the classroom. Help them build a solid foundation by bringing scripture memory in your homeschooling equation.
Brings a New Perspective to Homeschool Life
By adding Bible studies to your homeschool, you’re also bringing a new perspective with you. You may even notice a difference in the atmosphere and how your children respond to their attitudes. Your attitude will even look different. That’s not to say that there still won’t be meltdowns or whining from time to time, but your child will still have that morning’s Bible study in the back of their mind.
Learning Something about the Bible They Didn’t Already Know
The responsibility for your children to learn God’s word was never meant to be the sole responsibility of their Sunday school teachers. God entrusted you as their parent for a reason, and it’s your job to help your kids learn to love His Word. And you have the perfect opportunity as their homeschooling teacher.
Every day, make it your passion to introduce your son or daughter to something new in scripture that they may have never heard before. While they may love particular Bible stories or characters, it’s important that we don’t allow God’s word to simply become a big book full of stories. If we do, they’ll become bored with it and feel as though they’ve grown out of it.
Keep it Fresh
Keep it fresh, and show them how certain Bible characters sought God and his favor, even when the odds were stacked up against them. This can be an encouragement for them when they are struggling with a particular subject or difficult concept.
By adding Bible studies to your homeschooling days, not only will you and your children feel refreshed, but several other things will begin to happen in your home.
If you’ve used Bible studies for your homeschooling curriculum, what other benefits did you notice from it?
Don’t forget to download the April Mommy & Me Scripture Journals at the bottom of this post!
How to use these journals
- Family Bible Time – This is the perfect journal to use when you’re already gathered together for Bible time. You can simply read the passages together and then allow your kids to discuss what they wrote or show the pictures they drew of the verse.
- Homeschool Bible lessons – If you choose this option, I recommend that Mom completes the journal time beforehand so you are ready to talk and answer any questions that might come up as the kids work through their page.
- Character Training – This month’s focus is The Beatitudes, which are character qualities I want to instill in my own children. These 10 verses may seem small but are the foundation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I pray you and your family will see that as you work through this month’s focus.
- Personal Bible Time – If you have older children, you can use these printables as a way to encourage not only yourself but also your children in a personal Bible time.
