I love homeschooling my children, but I’ll be honest…there are times it is really hard. For instance, when they don’t like a subject or are struggling with a concept – I don’t like homeschooling in those moments. It is hard and it is messy. And sometimes we even cry together.
Reading and math are probably two of my least favorite favorite subjects to teach because they seem to cause the most stress and drama, at least in our house.
But oh…that moment when the light bulb finally lights up or that look on their face when they finally get it – that makes all the hard work and tears worth it. The moment we all strive for in creating a love of learning…that is actually my favorite part of homeschooling.
I don’t believe a love of learning is synonymous with intelligence or even a particular style of learning. I think it has everything to do with how we present learning opportunities to them. If we force them to sit down and work through worksheets at a young age and they hate them, they will equate that disdain with learning.
So with our younger kids I have learned that the more fun the activity, the better. That’s why I love themed worksheets that we can work in to a bigger unit study. Even if those worksheets are math and numbers, they can be fun. A few cute little animals never hurt, right?!
PRO TIP: Laminate all the pages you can in this fun math pack and use them over and over for fun practice. Or better yet, grab a top loading page protector and slide it right in. Then you can switch out the pages easily and quickly.
GRAPHING
Graphing is an important skill for little ones to learn. We’ve included a printable cube (you just need scissors and glue) and a graphing page for your little ones to record their results. This activity is fun as a game where they see which “animal” makes it to the top first!
NUMBER PUZZLES
There are ten different number puzzles where kids will match the numbers to a picture. Plus they can practice putting numbers in order from 1-10 with the animal sequencing puzzle.
COUNTING PRACTICE
Does your little one know how to count to 100? Now they can practice by filling in the blanks of the missing numbers. Plus, this fun page can be laminated and used over and over!
NUMBER RECOGNITION
Your child will learn to recognize both the written words and numbers, 1-10. They will write the words for each number one through ten. They will also work to recognize each number in a group of others. This is a great way to help the difference in each number when it is grouped with others.
